The swimming Ford GT excels in water & splash test! The new Ford GT is without a doubt one of the most awaited cars in 2017. Some customer cars have apparently already been delivered, but things aren’t over with testing, it seems. Ford Performance have just released a pretty cool video of the new Ford GT undergoing a “Water and Splash” test, which is quite original, to say the least.
The flat black car is very meancing like that, and kind of looks like an aquatic predator in full attack mode, despite the slow-mo. Too bad the quality isn’t the best. But then again, not complaining!
I usually see different cars in those kind of situations: trucks, SUVs, 4×4, in a mountain environment, in the wild… It wouldn’t surprise me if it was a Ford F150 Raptor or a Ranger, for example. But seeing the flagship of Ford Performance, the Ford GT, being able to perform in such a test is quite interesting as well. Not only does it show that the brand new supercar car actually take it like its counterparts, but that it seems to be a “drive everywhere, anytime” kind of car. The Ford GT is tested here to ensure vehicle systems continue to function properly should the car be driven through standing water. Obviously, I don’t expect any final customer to actually try that on their car… though it depends who got one in the end. I know of one or two “crazy” people that would be more than happy to test this lol.
But the question is… HOW is this possbile?! Don’t we have “Hydro Lock” (water destroying the engine). Most supercars have their air intakes rather low and closer to the ground, which explains why they aren’t the best candidates to a bit of flooding / heavy rain. However, the Ford GT air intakes are located behind the cockpit of the car, which makes the swimming Ford GT possible. This makes me think that the Porsche 918 could probably do something similar, or am I completely off-subject?
