On-board McLaren P1 GTR @ Laguna Seca
Pretty cool video of a rather rare sight: on-board footage of a McLaren P1 GTR at Laguna Seca. Indeed, there seems to have been a McLaren P1 GTR track day at the famous american race track of Laguna Seca (Mazda Raceway), with more than seven (7) P1 GTR showing up (including the presentation one, yellow & green “Harrod’s” – you also probably heard about th drifting that almost went wrong). Anyways, racing driver Alexander West was part of this track day with his black & white McLaren P1 GTR, and brought us this awesome footage. Thanks to him and thanks for sharing!
As he says in his video details: “Awesome track, but truly terrifying before you get used to it. Braking points are not visible“. And I fully agree: it’s definitely a very hard track to drive on. Even though I’ve never driven on it, I’ve always felt it was very treacherous, even in video games. As he says, some of the braking points aren’t visible due to the ups and downs and general shape of the track. If someone doesn’t know it very well, it’s better to do a few reconnaissance laps to get used to it! And of course, there’s the world famous corkscrew… Probably the coolest On-board McLaren P1 GTR footage I’ve seen so far!
Little recap: the McLaren P1 GTR is a track-focused car built my McLaren Automotive based on their ultimate supercar, the McLaren P1. Even though some can be made road-legal (there actually already are quite a few road-legal P1 GTR out there). The P1 GTR’s thermic V8 biturbo ups to 800 bhp (+60 more than the P1) whereas the electric engine ups to 200 bhp. Total being 1000bhp, not bad for a 660 kg car !! The price of the car is more or less 2,5 million euros, and only McLaren P1 owners are able to buy a P1 GTR. And both have all been sold out, sorry.
