New Porsche 960 supercar on its way ?
Not much has been said and it’s rather quiet, but it seems there is a new Porschesupercar on its way. According to Car Magazine, the german manufacturer from Zuffenhausen is currently working hard on a mid-engined supercar whose goal will be to fight market shares with the Ferrari 488 GTB, Lamborghini Huracan or the McLaren 650s. This car is rumoured to have a price tag of more or less £200,000.
Well, first of all, I’m sorry for using the term “supercar” considering it’s definitely not one “per se”, as I explained earlier. Why would people think there’s a new thing coming? Mainly because Porsche applied for the “960” trademark back in September 2015 already. So it’s not entirely 100% news, but it’s probably just taking more shape and consistence. Obviously, there aren’t many details for the car as of today, it’s merely a rumor. Car Magazine did say a few things: the car will have a quad-turbocharged 3,9L flat-eight engine. I’m not much of a technical guy and I don’t understand much about mechanics, but I can tell it’s definitely something rather powerful (but then again, do you know a Porsche that isn’t, I ask you!).
Again, according to CarMagazine: “this engine will feature Porsche’s new “VarioCom” system, rumoured to be the brand’s new system variable compression system. With this type of system, the engine will benefit from greater fuel economy, smoother engine activity, reduced emissions and more“. Why am I not suprised? After the VW scandal, they are being super extra careful about those kind of things lol. As they say, they’re always trying to bring solutions to problems. No wonder the new Porsche 960 supercar will have something like that…
I’m afraid that’s about all I have for the moment! Though CarMagazine’s article is wayyyy more interesting and complete if you want to check it out. But it’s definitely interesting, don’t you think? That being said, I don’t know if Porsche really need something else in this price range & to rival such cars. The way I see it, it already has a huge range of awesome cars that can already do that. But hey, that’s just my two cents. According to Porsche, there is a spot to fill, somewhere between the Porsche 911 Turbo S and the Porsche 918.
