Meet the Ferrari 812 Superfast! We’ve been waiting for the F12 replacement for quite a few years, now. Therefore, this is absolutely not a surprise, considering it was expected with much enthusiasm. After the codename “F12 M”, after many clients were taken to private showings of the car in the past months, here we finally have its final name, as decided by the chieftains of Maranello: the 812 Superfast.
The name pays a tribute to the Ferrari 500 Superfast, another prancing horse from the 60s that was destined to the US market. Rumours are saying that the sound of this one is even MORE impressive than that of the F12 Berlinetta. Obviously, I have no trouble believing that.
Here are the mind-boggling specs of the new prancing horse, already dubbed “most powerful Ferrari”: 6.5L V12 engine giving 800 hp at 8500 rpm, and 718 Nm of torque at 7000 rpm. Just like the F12 TDF, the 812 Superfast does the 0 to 100 km/h in 2,9 seconds, and has a top speed of 340 km/h.
The Ferrari 812 Superfast is obviously based on the F12 Berlinetta. The F12 TDF is to the F12 B what the 599 GTO was to the 599 GTB. But what exactly is the 812 superfast? I find it hard to call it a “revamp” of the F12, but it almost seems like a brand new model, just like the 488/458 gap. The fact they dropped the “F12” on the name (though 812 is very reminiscing), makes me think that way.
Its global design is pretty slick, but I can’t help thinking of the 612 Scaglietti, for some reason. Obviously, those new tail-lights are a direct link to the GTC4 Lusso as well – are we seeing a new trend on tail-lights, here? Either way, even though its looks are less agressive than the F12 TDF IMHO, the 812 superfast still seems like a very mean machine. The new wheels are very interesting with some kind of spiralling going on, somehow Lamborghinish (uh-oh). Its back seems much less athletic than the F12B’s or F12 TDF’s, more reminiscing of an FF or a GTC4 Lusso. However, the front is were it all happens for me, it’s absolute monster.
Can’t wait for GENEVA 2017 !
