McPOG is here!
Back in January, I went to meet POG all the way in Bruxelles (Belgium) for the reveal of his brand new car. I had known what it was for quite some time, but I obviously kept it a secret to maintain the surprise (I’m very good at that). I had already seen pictures of the car, but I thought it would be a good reason to go up north.
Thus my journey began very early in Paris, in a cold morning. I took the TGV to Lille, where I met up with a few friends. The plan of the journey was to convoy with other cool cars to Bruxelles, and meet POG there. To show his new car to the world, POG had organized a meet with his fans at the Atomium in Bruxelles, and his two other cars would be there as well (Ferrari 458 Speciale Aperta – the one I drove) and his quite loud Lamborghini Aventador. For the road trip ahead of us, we picked-up a gorgeous black Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG at the Villeneuve d’Ascq dealership, with epic red seat belts. And off we went to join a few friends. Taking part in the convoy were, among other cars: orange Lamborghini Gallardo, Corvette Z07, Lotus Elise, Nissan GTR, and POG’s 458 SA. It was pretty cool to convoy with all that, despite the rain and cold weather.
Once at the Atomium, everything became even harder: mild and annoying cold rain, snow… I was baffled by Belgium’s weather conditions and kept mentioning it pretty much all the time lol. Everyone was waiting for POG and his other cars.
He arrived not too long after, with his gorgeous new car: a lovely “lantana purple” McLaren 675 LT spider. POG christened his car with a bottle of champagne, like they do with ships. The big difference was he didn’t break the bottle against the car haha! A special detail that I’ve always deeply enjoyed with POG’s cars (and belgian plates in general): they’re customized. And he chose “McPOG” for his McLaren (he also had the “POGlaren” option, which was good too). I find that amusing and frankly, quite awesome. McPOG joins POGTADOR and POGA in the garage!
BTW, if you were wondering, lantana purple is an MSO colour, obviously. POG made a Lantana Purple mini-POG too (the dwarf that gives you the finger, always stuck on the back of his cars). He also had other interesting details, like orange brake calipers and decals on some parts of the car, making the purple / orange combo stand out and look absolutely immense, especially under the sun. The seats are moulded to his physique, therefore I was a little bit squished in there. I’m not saying it was uncomfortable, but it was slightly challenging. Also, the seat belts aren’t in the best of positions, for my taste. So is the sound, but then again, I had the Aventador as a comparison during the rev battle… also, it’s a brand new engine and as POG said, it still needs a few thousand km to fully grow and scream. And this is completely understdandable! Can’t wait to see what it sounds like once he’s “done” with it! We stayed there, messed around a bit, revved a bit, sparkled the police’s curiosity more than once during our stay there. Basically, we were all having a bit of innocent fun, discussing, taking photos and enjoying ourselves.
When it was time to go, I jumped in with POG in his brand new car, for its first time on the highway. Obviously, he didn’t go full throttle straight away. Not only weather conditions didn’t help (it was night time already, still raining, slippery roads…) but it would be a very silly move to give it all on a brand new car you don’t fully master yet. So it was a chillax drive, yet you could still feel the 675LT spider wasn’t your “normal car”. A lot of power was hiding under there. 675 horses of power, actually. So we drove for about an hour, and the car handled really well. It’s just a shame I didn’t see it driving around much (but then again, I wouldn’t have seen much given the purple colour + night). Eventually, all the cars convoyed to a McDonald’s for dinner, and it was absolutely fantastic. Not only because I hadn’t eaten all day, but also because… you know. Fast food & supercars. Always a fun & winning combination!
What a day that was!
Congrats on your new car POG, hope you enjoy it!
Thanks to everyone who made that day simply great! 🙂
