Exotics on Cannery Row – EOCR 2016
During the 2016 Monterey Car Week, I had a lot of things to attend, and I was invited by Aimee from FuelRun & Benoît from 100|OCT to attend the Exotics on Cannery Row, aka EOCR 2016. Exotics on Cannery Row is “a car show” event, free for the public, anyone can attend and enjoy the show, right in front of the ocean. This was only the second edition of the event, but judging by the turnouts & organization, it feels like this thing has been going around for ages.
We decided to arrive quite early, first of all to enjoy a bit of the place and have lunch there, and to catch the early arrivals of cars. I’ve been told later by a friend that it was the “touristy” side of town, which didn’t bother us one bit haha. I mean, we *were* tourists , and we enjoyed the shops & restaurants there (we even came back another day to chill). The cars started arriving around 2PM, and the event officially started around 5PM if I’m not mistaken. It didn’t felt like waiting to me though, because cars arrived regularly.
Soon enough, it became madness. So many cars around, I didn’t even know what to do, what to take photos of. It’s one of my biggest flaws at a car event, you get overwhelmed by the sheer insanity of cars present and you tend to forget to actually “do your thing”, you’re standing there aimelessly, enjoying, gazing & drooling. As we should haha! There was a specific space in the “center” of the huge parking lot, which was reserved for the “supercars”: red Porsche 959, blue Aston Martin One-77 with blue wheels, McLaren P1, Aventador SV roadster, Ferrari F50, Ferrari 599 GTO, Ferrari F12 TDF with a great spec… Basically, there was car porn everywhere. So many cars were lined-up: 675LT, 458 Speciale & Speciale Aperta, Gallardo, Huracan, i8….
Some very nice surprises as well: when the Koenigseggs showed up. A silver CCX & a dark blue (or was it black?) Agera popped up and gathered a mad crowd (with good reason). Or when the Pagani gang decided to make an appearance (they were stuck in traffic after leaving The Quail). This was a good time to reunite with the Huayra BC and to actually see it driving for the first time, as well as seeing “The King” Huayra a bit more in details.
Many famous car owners attended EOCR 2016: Salomondrin in his acid green Porsche 918 spyder (what’s up Alejandro?!), Dennis_Akoyaking in his Ferrari F50, TheCaraba in his satin red McLaren P1 (nice to see him again!), David SK Lee in his Pagani Huayra (which used to belong to Salomondrin BTW)… and probably many more!
My biggest surprise & “best of show” was without a doubt the matte baby blue Ferrari LaFerrari, aka “BUCKBLU”. Not only is this real paint, but the car is perfection for me: it has everything I could want in a car like that. A crazy colour (and NOT a wrap), as well as a lovely custom plate, which reads “BuckBlu”. Balling at the highest levels. The silver LaFerrari & Enzo combo was definitely a close second, same owner, same colours for his supercars. It was absolutely mental.
